The Abandoned Mask is the seventh episode of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2.

Summary

Nunnally is sworn in as the new Viceroy of Area 11, and reveals her intention to restore the Specially Administrated Zone of Japan.

Knowing he cannot go against his sister's wishes, Lelouch slips into a state of depression. Before he can relinquish himself to Refrain, Kallen steps in to Lelouch at Shinjuku, telling him that she wanted to tell him something. She notices he is about to inject Refrain. He felt that the Black Knights are not needed anymore and that he cannot challenge his sister, he uses Refrain to bring back memories.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 Episode 7

Kallen forcefully takes away the Refrain from him and throws it to the floor. She tells him that she'll do whatever he says just so he will become Zero again. From at the same state of depression, Lelouch tells Kallen that she can 'console' him. Lelouch stands up and holds Kallen's chin in an attempt to kiss her. 

Kallen snaps at the last moment and slaps him telling him that he has a responsibility and an obligation to the Japanese and the Black Knights. She then runs away.

An eavesdropping Rolo emerges, but attempts to persuade Lelouch to abandon his identity as Zero and return to being a high school student. Meanwhile, the Black Knights are under attack by a Britannian naval fleet, led by Suzaku. A glimmer of hope is revealed to Lelouch after he sees fireworks setting off at Ashford Academy. Rushing to the battlefield, Lelouch orders the Black Knights to fire straight ahead even though the enemy was not there. The Black Knights follows his orders and launch the torpedoes, setting the detonation at 40 seconds.

When it exploded, massive underwater bubbles came to rise up to the surface, leading to the victor of Lelouch and The Black Knights.

To Suzaku's surprise, he then announces his acceptance to Nunnally's offer in joining the Special Administrated Zone of Japan.
