Ioan Malcal (ヨアン・マルカル, Yoan Marukaru) is the older, adoptive brother of Leila Malcal as well as her fiancé. Despite their family relation, he seems to think very poorly of Leila. He does not actually want to marry her and rudely suggests that she will be nothing more than one of his mistresses when it happens. After he insulted her, Akito purposely spilled his drink on him. Infuriated, Ioan was about to attack the Eleven when he quickly subdued the callous man by grabbing his arm and twisted him around. Akito then lied to him that Elevens were skilled with blades and would cut his face up. Scared, Ioan demanded that Akito let go, to which he did. Akito then offered him a napkin to clean himself up, to which he hesitantly received. Sometime later, when people were rioting, Ioan received word that a power plant was attacked by terrorists, only later to find out that it was faked.
Ioan can be described as an insensitive, callous and misogynistic-like man (he was first seen with two ladies, one of whom he carelessly pushed away, and wasn't afraid of voicing his true opinion of Leila); he was later seen to be somewhat inebriated as seen before he learned about the supposed terrorist attack on the power plant. He acted like most Britanians despite being European in his treatment of Elevens, he treats Elevens with general contempt; he gave a sarcastic little greeting to Akito when he introduced himself to him. He's also shown to be rather cowardly, when he frighteningly demanded Akito to let him go when Akito said he would cut his face up. However, he might have a caring side when he expressed worry for Leila following the fake terrorist attack on the power plant; he urged that she return home, but she declined. He was last seen looking solemnly at an old photo he had of him and Leila when they were younger.
He does not appear in the 4th or 5th episodes, leaving his fate unknown.
