The Akatsuki-Upgrade (暁改) is a Knightmare Frame appearing in Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture.
It is a refurbished Akatsuki and serves as the main Knightmare Frame used by Japanese resistance forces in Hokkaido.
Design & Development[]
Compared to the Mass-Production Model, the Upgraded Akatsuki sport a slightly more angular design with updated software. Outside of this, their capabilities are roughly similar to that of their predecessor, being a decent 7th Generation Knightmare Frame that holds its own again Neo Britannian Knightmares like the Camden.
Nevertheless, in frequent showings, the Camdens are able to overpower the Akatsukis due to the former's modularity which allows them to carry heavier firepower such as ATGMs or SAMs. In response, the Akatsukis prefer ambush tactics, using their comparatively smaller profile to catch their Neo Britannian rivals off guard.
Although it is still unmatched against the more specialized and advance models used by the Einberg.
Operational History[]
The Akatsuki-Upgrade is first seen in year 3 of the Kowa Period during a surprise attack on the United States of Japan's Hokkaido block by a faction of Britannian forces. After the resulting formation of the Neo Britannian Empire, the Akatsuki-Upgrade is used by the Seven Shining Stars to fight against them.

Trivia[]
- Compared to the older Mass-Produced Akatsukis which is capable of carrying a Revolving Blade Sword, so far, no known Akatsuki-Upgrades were shown wielding a close-combat model. It is unknown why that is the case, given the advantage of the Akatsukis was its flexibility on all ranges. This is ironic, given that the Camden is specialized in ranged-firepower like those of the Europian Panzer Hummel, so the roles have been switched.
