I was wondering, if anyone who has read the manga and the light novels both can tell me what's the difference in the storyline between the two.
Also, anywhere I can get the manga and light novels.
I assume you mean the manga that's the closest adaption of the anime, since there's about six different manga at this point. Manga Reader has the OG manga and Renya of Darkness off the top of my head, but Mangarock is higher def. Mangatown has the first four chapters of the Re; manga and the first nine chapters of Oz the Reflection manga. Renya, Re, and Oz are canon.
Unfortunately, I've never read the R2, Red Tracks, or Knight of the Rounds light novels, only the R1 novels that were officially translated into English. The R1 novels closely follow the anime canon except for only one major deviation, being that Genbu Kururugi is dead before Britannia invades and its Kirihara that's leading Japan from the shadows. Claiming he speaks for Genbu, he tells Japanese military officials even before the war kicks off that Japan will wage a do or die resistance, but he later meets with Todo and admits that Japan will lose in open war and must conserve its strength for a better opportunity. From what I remember, the novels offer different pov's of anime events and flesh out details of the surrounding world. For example, the novels cover Cornelia's inner turmoil over Euphemia rejecting her royalty and Darlton's history with the li Britannia's family.
Once again, I've only read Lelouch of the Rebellion R1 manga Ch 1-20, but they loosely follows canon events, some events don't happen, others are rolled into others. I'm just going to list the differences as I reread the whole thing. The major difference between the this manga and the LN/anime is that there are no Knightmares.
Lelouch comes home from the first chess match in canon to witness a military plane crash which has C.C on board. Lloyd bandages Suzaku up and reveals that he's only posing as a teacher, and that he actually works for the military. Cecile exists, but does not have a prominent role.
Ashford Academy accepts Eleven students, a handful of whom are "activists" led by Kallen who deface property and are proud to be Japanese. Suzaku is already enrolled at Ashford. Lelouch saves them from the self-proclaimed Britannian "student defense force" that that tries to arrest them with a real gun to hand over to the military. Lelouch introduces himself to Kallen as Zero.
There is no Shinjuku Massacre per say, but over the course of at least several days, the Britannian military becomes more aggressive as it meets Jap resistance to find the "poisonous gas." While visiting the ghetto one day, Kallen is pinned with other Elevens and is saved by Lelouch Geassing Clovis and then killing him.
Euphie is made the new Viceroy of Area 11 and attends Ashford for 3 days, meeting Suzaku and Lelouch. She promises to keep his secret and tells him she doesn't know anything about Marianne's death. She was also present at court for Lelouch's exile.
Lelouch, Rivalz, and Suzaku go with the girls to the conference that's hijacked. Suzaku and Lelouch (as Zero) save Euphie, but Kusakabe has the hotel rigged. Suzaku repels out the window with Euphie as Lulu goes back and single handedly saves the hostages by Geassing the JLF men there to let them go. Lulu has his announcement on tv, but there are no Black Knights.
Without Cornelia, there's no Narita. General Katase and remaining JLF try to make sail to the Federation with the sakuradite tankard, but Lelouch and Kallen fly over on a gunship to meet them. Lulu Geasses them. He waits for Brit soldiers to board the ship and then takes off. Kallen drops a bomb from the gunship which destroys the tankard, Britannian regiment (the defunct Purtist faction and Kewel), and the port. Civilians were revealed to be caught in the blast, including Shirley's father.
Shirley became interested in Lelouch after he embarrassed a noble that was berating a child rather than the auto accident event in the anime. Kallen doesn't hate her father. Her mother is at a hospital in a vegetable state from Refrain addiction. Jeremiah survived Zero's attack on the port but is crazy. Mao is spotted by the port and Suzaku confronts him. Mao reveals he knows Suzu's secret and makes him let Mao go.
Kallen and Zero reaffirm their vows to continue no matter what they have to do. Zero and Kallen meet the Shinjuku resistance (the canon OG Black Knight members) for the first time. Oghi and Kallen recognize each other, both surprised they're involved in resistance. Zero plans a heist for a train carrying supplies, but during the course of it, is knocked unconscious and is found by Shirley. She realizes everything Mao said is true and begins to have a break down until Jeremiah arrives, who plans to turn Zero in and ask for the right to execute him. Shirley shoots him, Jeremiah crawls into a nearby river, Shirley leaves a photo of Lulu and takes his gun, causing him to realize she had found out his secret.
Euphemia's staff requests that select a knight to escort her while they handle all military matters. Lloyd reveals to her on the way to Kaminejima that he was originally sent to Area 11 by Prince Schniezel to investigate the ruins there. Milly is invited by Lloyd to Kaminejima, who intern brings Lelouch, C.C, and the Ashford student council. Suzaku runs into Euphemia who sneaks away from her escort. She tells him that having seen the difference between dreams and reality, she's ready to give up, but Suzaku encourages her to continue. Lelouch and Kellen get lost and step on the Geass-controlled platform, controlled by V.V. They discover the ruins and are almost discovered, but C.C dressed as Zero distracts the guards. She escapes on the BK sub gifted by Kyoto. Zero and the BKs visit Kyoto and are openly greeted by Kaguya, who is guarded by Todo.
Suzaku is undercover at the moment the BK's launch an operation. The event is televised and he's ridiculed for apparently letting Zero escape, even though he was wounded and facing three VTOLs. His staff officers tell him they're going to make him a scapegoat again, but are interrupted by Euphie who decides to knight him. The officers complain to Schniezel, who allows it. Suzaku tells Lelouch about his promotion, and Lelough tries to Geass him into becoming his comrade. At the last moment, he cant and instead orders him to live on.
The SAZ Massacre occurs the same way, only the soldiers are on foot and Suzu forces one of them to tell him what's going on.
